five friday finds: mediocrity, writing, Japan's 2024 problem

where will all the trucks go?

Hi hi hi,

Seasons in Singapore are witnessed through festivals and not the weather. It was the mid-autumn festival last week, which will give way to Deepavali celebrations soon, followed by the Christmas season. What that means is different parts of the country transform into brightly lit spectacles - and I'm here for it - to slow down and celebrate and take in the light. Here are the finds for the week:

  1. MEDIOCRITY "I longed to do less, to forget about work and productivity and self-promotion and just…be."
  2. WRITE TO THINKWhat’s uniquely human that can improve your decision-making, creativity, and productivity and is completely free?
  3. COMPUTER HISTORY The most important computer you’ve never heard of.
  4. LIDAR VIEWS Stunning stuff: Cartographer Dan Coe uses Lidar in fascinating ways, showcasing rivers and deltas in high resolution that wouldn’t be possible with traditional means.
  5. 2024 PROBLEM Sounds a lot like Y2K, but it's different - what is Japan calling its '2024 problem'? Hint: it's about truck drivers.

After years, we're finally checking out an art exhibit that seems perennially popular in Singapore. Go find a thing in your hood that you've "always meant to check out".
