five friday finds: fake memories, RIP criticism, battle bots

The Pitchfork story really got me.

Hello folks,

I love jam-packed weeks when you’ve done a lot, time has moved really fast, and yet you don’t feel exhausted by the pace of it all. Here are the finds that kept me curious through all of it:

  1. FAKE MEMORIES A fascinating experiment to help early-stage dementia patients uses AI image generators to visualize old memories.
  2. PRAY & BUILD Architectural drawing speaks of mathematical precision, but its roots lie in religion.
  3. RIP PITCHFORK Critics were once our best guides to new music. Then came streaming and AI.
  4. FUTURE GROWTH Fresh off the Davos oven, the report characterizes nations’ economic growth across four dimensions: Innovativeness; Inclusiveness; Sustainability; and Resilience.
  5. BATTLE BOTS Rather than limit who can put in orders for limited-edition sneakers, watches and collectibles, retailers are throwing open their drops — and then using data analytics to quietly kick bad actors to the back of the line.

This week was spent plotting flight paths and itineraries. More on that in a future post.
