five friday finds: conscious re-coupling

you do have to look at each other, even to disagree

What started around 8 years ago with the US and China shifting further away from each other has ballooned into a world-changing, strife-driving and in some cases, paradoxical phenomena. The leaders of the two nations met this week, and this week’s finds look at five different lenses into this incredibly intertwined relationship.

  1. CONNECTORS These 5 countries are key economic ‘Connectors’ in a multi-polar world.
  2. WORLD CART China is no longer just the world’s factory; now, it’s also the world’s mall.
  3. BEYOND COPY How did China, once criticised for ‘copying’ Western technology, go on to innovate?
  4. NO SPIN The Chinese tech giant Alibaba canceled plans to spin off its cloud-computing business, blaming U.S. chip restrictions.
  5. PHONES GALORE It's past time to start taking Chinese phones seriously, whether you've used one or not.

I’m always pro-dialogue. It will never not be complicated, just need to keep talking it out.
