five friday finds: boyfriends, hurricanes, tutor tablets

At least AI boyfriends listen to you when you want.

Here’s what I made this week.

chibi illustration of an old man vomiting coffee beans into my daughter’s ear

My daughter had a hilarious dream where an old man (in “mystery land”) chewed coffee beans and tried to swallow it down with milk and water and ended up vomiting in her ear. Yes, she’s hilarious. I’m trying out my “chibi” skills to illustrate this for her.

The finds for this week are mixed bag of scary and hopeful:

  1. AI BOYFRIENDS Young Chinese have resorted to a new way of dealing with stress in an increasingly fast- paced and stressful urban environment – AI partners.
  2. 2034 Glimpse into the future that leading global strategists and foresight practitioners forecast when surveyed on how they expect the world to change over the next ten years.
  3. CAT 6 'Category 5' was considered the worst hurricane. There's something scarier, study says.
  4. TUTOR TABLETS Parents turn to AI tablets after China’s tutor crackdown. The devices are popular in smaller, less-developed cities, where after-school education is harder to come by.
  5. SOCIAL FITNESS This is about Americans, but I think easily extrapolates to a lot of the developed world - they are becoming less social as people spend more time looking at screens and less meeting in person, new survey data showed.

The week after Lunar New Year is usually (extra) rainy in Singapore. But every mall, every big apartment complex and tons of businesses around the island hire Lion Dance (and Dragon Dances this year) troupes to come in, so we’ll try to catch a few of them in action.

Oh and I need your help - can you send this to one, just one, friend who you think will appreciate these curiosities. thankyouloveyoumeanit!
