five friday finds: analog interest, games, anti-MrBeast

you can take the iPhone out of China, but you can't take...

I spent this week in Bangalore, hitting up coffee shops & bookstores. It was balm for a weary mind. Here are the finds that kept me company while stuck in sluggish traffic:

  1. AI = ANALOG INTEREST In a generative AI world, analog film photography is making a comeback.
  2. NATURE CURE How time outdoors transforms our memory, imagination and logic.
  3. CAT & MOUSE A mobile game that is a fun combination of a childhood game, in-person networking, the latest location-sharing technology, and meme-worthy experience, has gone viral in China this year, drawing thousands of people across the country to events every week.
  4. ANTI-BEAST? The YouTube “era of excess” was helmed by Mr. Beast. Now, Taylor Lorenz, a keen observer of all things western-interent, predicts the next wave will be “anti-MrBeast” to defy this trend.
  5. HARD PROBLEM Chinese engineers are flying to India to train the next generation of iPhone builders, but it’s going to be a struggle.

I’m smack dab in the middle of a sci-fi book (Hospital by Han Song) and loving every page - this weekend will be spent finishing it.
